VIC: Grey skies don't deter Victorian faithful at dawn service

Grey skies have not dampened the enthusiasm of the thousands gathered for the dawnservice at Melbourne's Shrine of Remembrance this morning.

The 6am service was presided over by outgoing Victorian RSL president BRUCE RUXTON,who retires in June after more than 40 years in the job.

A commemorative wreath was laid by Governor of Victoria JOHN LANDY at the Stone ofRemembrance, which reads, "Greater Love Hath No Man".

Veterans and their families have been invited to place a poppy inside the shrine, orat the World War II memorial, while hundreds gathered around the eternal flame.

Those at the service have also been invited to the traditional gunfire breakfast atthe military barracks opposite on St Kilda Road.
