Fed: PM pays tribute at MPs funeral=2

Mr Nugent's Victorian federal colleague Petro Georgiou added his tribute.

Mr Georgiou said Mr Nugent was a parliamentarian of conscience, honour and courage
for whom human rights was more important than political gain.

Mr Georgiou said Mr Nugent was passionately committed to Aboriginal reconciliation.

"Peter was unremittingly courageous in the pursuit of social justice," he said.

"His death means that Australia has lost a voice against poverty and disadvantage."

Mr Nugent's body was taken to the Necropolis at Springvale for a private family committal
service.
